Redline
Since axles are supposed to be here Tuesday (thanks Gruff) and we are suppose to be going wheeling next weekend, decided should probably fix the pocket that broke at koh. I don’t think the bolt would hold on much longer once the 40s go on! Link to comment
Redline
Got what was left connected cut off. The bolt was seized in the joint because whoever installed the kit before I got the jeep never heard of antiseize..... thanks evo. Had to press the bolt out. Link to comment
Redline
The joint had worn itself into the plate crooked and also egged the whole out a little bit. 1 Link to comment
Redline
Welded and resurfaced the wear grooves. Then made a weld washer to fix the bolt hole and also space the joint off the frame so it won’t bind and break pocket again. Going to put weld washer on the other side of the pocket too for the same reason. 3 Link to comment

fiend
Yikes. Glad you didn’t have a catastrophic failure. Link to comment
AJK
Dang Devin, that turn into a project. Welds looks amazing as always. Link to comment
Weebz
I am sorry man. I know that pain all too well. Link to comment
Gruff
That's ridiculous. 1/4" plate instead of 3/8" would probably have made the difference. And full welding of the brackets. And better bracing. And a better design. Glad I got mine out Link to comment
Redline
Finished up this morning. It’s magical how a proper set up pocket doesn’t bind the arm. 4 Link to comment

The way the arm was binding popped the welds, none of the plate failed. Maybe if had started with 4130 plate and good welds there wouldn’t have had this problem. Better gusseting definitely would have helped. You are definitely doing the better setup but for now I have to stick with the evo setup. 1 Link to comment

It’s 4130 instead of the mild steel evo used and 3/8 thick where the bolt shoulder is going through. “Should” be good to go but we will see. 1 Link to comment
Jdofmemi
Keep in mind that the frame it's attaching to is 1/8" or so. Better design and installation quality will be better than thicker metal just for the sake of being thicker. No Link to comment
Jdofmemi
No binding, reinforced holes, and more length of weld connecting to the frame is the right answer for me. I would like to see it wrap the frame for the best strength. Link to comment
