Jdofmemi
I know, same Jeep, but a new topic. I'm planning on filling in details of what I did up to now on the original build, this thread will be from now as I move forward with the full GenRight Elite kit. Progress right now is this : 3 Link to comment

Jdofmemi
More progress today. Factory "cage", if you can call it that, is gone. Now comes the hard part. 2 Link to comment

Jdofmemi
Big thanks to Alan for helping me get going on the GenRight cage. We spent over 6 hours non stop on it, and achieved getting the windshield bar mounted to the tub, the B pillar mounts partially in, and the C pillar mounts fully bolted in. This thing is a lot of work. 3 3 Link to comment

Don't drop the backing plate for the C pillar brace in the hole. It's a pain to get out. I think I mentioned this to Jeff, but some of the steps for the C and D pillar and bracing might be easier if you kind of piece it together with ratchet straps before you tack it. Byron can explain it better. Definitely a learning curve to it. Link to comment

Pulled it after the other bolts were started. 2 Link to comment
Jdofmemi
Alan came back this morning, and we got busy on the cage. Finished mounting the brackets, and got ready to weld some tube. Had to fight with the welder a bit. We got half of the bungs in, and the long run ers welded together, then Alan had to go. I finished the bungs and ground the welds down nice on the splices. Then I started fitting things. The Jeep is crooked, even leveled out on jack stands. That makes a few parts of the cage challenging. The biggest problems so far is the C pillar upright on the passenger side is about 3/16" short, and the gap on the windshield bracket is off from one side to the other. I got a lot of the tubes in by myself, but since it is crooked, I didn't weld anything, even to tack it, until it all comes together. Straps are working, and the dead blow hammer. All in all it is going pretty well. 2 Link to comment
Weebz
Looks awesome Jerry. Seems like you are about a day ahead of me on working on this thing. How many ratchet straps you recommend I have on hand for this? Link to comment

How many ratchet straps you recommend I have on hand for this? I would say at least 10. Some rubber Bungie straps will help too. I fit basically all of it alone after Alan left. Had to pull what we already had in since I missed the rear seat belt bungs. No bars you see in the Jeep are tacked, since I want to be able to move it around and make sure it fits. My Jeep had about a half inch bend in it, so I was and still am concerned about the fit. The long, A to D bars I used a Bungie to hold on to the factory B pillar. If you wrap it the right way, it will hold it up in case things come apart. If you wrap it wrong, it will fall on you, and it's a heavy bitch with sharp edges. It hurts when it falls on you. I cut a couple of wooden wedges to lock the D pillar bar tabs in the mount. I wedged them between the back of the bar and the lip on the tub. The upper B pillar crossbar, and the A to B spreaders can be done by using two straps, somewhat loose at first, to hold the spreaders. Tab in one side, then do that side spreader bar, then the other, and adjust the straps to keep it snug and then just tap away carefully with a dead blow. A third strap from A to B in the center will keep these together. The upper C pillar bar and cross braces will go the same way, with two across and one front to rear. I also used a strap on each side to pull the upper A to D bar down to hold it tabbed into the B pillar. I'm still not sure how I'm going to deal with the gap on the passenger side C pillar. Still more to do. 1 2 Link to comment
