Vengeance

So today I had a couple of hours, so I decided to install the new upper control arm bushing from Rock Jock.

It is basically a Johny Joint that fits in the left side upper mount on the axle.

With the factory rubber bushing I had a ton of axle wrap.

The old one is a PITA to get out. It drives in from the left, and the axle does not give enough room to line up straight to drive it back out. At least with the axle in the Jeep.

First I removed the line for the ARB, and taped over it to keep debris out. IMG20230506162701.thumb.jpg.fea665d514d7366b19746c23ceae749f.jpg

I was hoping to screw a plug in, but I didn't have one the correct size.

Then, I cut the left side off flush with the casting, then was able to drive it the rest of the way through.

I used one of the plates from my press lined up against the bushing, and hit it with a sledgehammer to drive the bushing in. IMG20230506173926.thumb.jpg.ccfcd3a478c57d9c9684aa70ead71a52.jpg

Then I had to drill the holes out in the fork to 5/8" to match the new bushing.

The step bit was just short of going all the way through, so I cleaned the last tiny bit with my die grinder. IMG20230506174151.thumb.jpg.9f878da44465c2ef099cd8a25e464fbe.jpg

Bolt goes in nice and snug, and now to hook up the ARB line and it's done.

Uh oh😱

What did I find when I pulled the tape.

Apparently I hit the bulkhead fitting with the hammer😭

Now I have a project🤬

Looks like the majority of my projects. Everything takes 2-3 times what I expect, because there’s always some complication like that.

Are you running a 3 link front?

Yes, the GenRight kit.

The front is exactly what the 4 door will end up with, except pushed forward an inch or so farther.

I didn't want to cut the cast upper mount to weld on a bridge, so I built a hybrid upper link, with the factory "fork" for the front of the upper. It is sleeved into the DOM tubing with a Jonny joint at the rear.

The factory rubber bushing was not up to the task, and was allowing a ton of wheel hop.

Rock Jock makes the Jonny joint that presses I to the factory lug, so it should correct the axle wrap/wheel hop issue.

Vengeance is back together, air system is tight, no leaks, locker still works, and now the front should be tighter.

Had to test the locker out, and the new subdivision fenced off my test hill I've used for 20 years, so I had to improvise.

I won't have time, except for High Desert Roundup next weekend.

You coming out?

No. We have plans with the friends and family. Plus my shit is all ready. My luck I would hit a dead bush out there and tear the jeep completely in half before we leave LOL.

Jerry, can you get with Andrew and Tony and see if they figured out any reason the brackets for the cargo Rack are landing right on my cross bar weld.   I’m not getting a response and getting rather annoyed as time is extremely limited and losing another weekend doesn’t fly.

I will see them tonight or tomorrow and ask for you.

Can you send me pictures to show them?

I didn't get a lot of pictures from HDR, but here is a few.

I did OK on the RTI ramp, 1318.

That's with well over 2" of shock shaft left when the rear tire is stuffed in the body.

If I can get my hands on some 14" coilovers for the rear, it will do better.

Where it really shined is on the trail.

The difference between last year and this year was night and day.

No more hanging up on things. The GenRight flat belly and DT 4 link rear is the ticket.

No lower control arms or mounts hanging below the axle tube, so I can now slide across the rocks that used to hang me up.

I walked up places I didn't think I could, and Vengeance has even more to offer.

For a nice finishing touch, Tony brought me a custom cover for the lid on the fuel cell, to keep dirt, snow, water, and other assorted debris out.

The value of building a relationship with a good company:

Tony (GenRight owner) hunted through storage for me to find me a loaner pair of used 14" coilovers to use until the ones I have on order finally show up from King.

Longer legs for the rear just in time for Colorado 👍👍👍
