More from today's work.

We got the rear outboard mounts cut into the frame, and ready for the welder.

Then we played with the cage.

We didn't have the right size tube to splice the main rail when we cut it to shorten, so we couldn't get too far.

Next is to finish the mock up, then build the lower mount for the B pillar.

Next time should show more.

The ride height is going to be higher than before, and higher than I planned, but still nearly 2 inches lower than Dennis' Jeep.

Once the rest is set, as long as the driveshaft has enough droop, I can go to 14" in the front, and I will be set up for 42s, once 5he front axle gets replaced with a 60.

If you notice the picture of the tire, it has 4 inches before it hits the armor.

That was full bump.

It used to rub, even with the 14" coilovers.

I would have liked to move the mounts up an inch or two, but they wouldn't have enough frame contact to be strong.

On the other hand, I will have clearance for days to get over most anything once this is finished.

Looks great Jerry.  I’ll be curious how the front comes together with the driveshaft.  Nice work gents.

Me too.

Unfortunately I have to wait for the axle to come back, because I didn't remember to tell Dennis to measure it before he pulled the axle out.

Also, after the mock up, we decided to have the welder add 4" to the towers, so I can move them up farther to be able to go to a 16" in the back.

Then the 14" can move to the front, ride height will come up by about another 2", and I will still be lower than most Jeeps on 40s

Spent the day at Dennis' house, working on the cage.

My vision for the fastback cage is now fully tacked together.

Tomorrow we will get it out, and off to the welder to fi ish it up. If not for work causing a lack of time, I would do it all myself.

Many thanks to Dennis for all his help.

The front axle is finished and ready to pick up.

New left inner and two new outer axles from Moser, and now a spare outer stub to carry. IMG_20231019_105904.thumb.jpg.9b6d0ab744935ad306a8f8a3894a29d9.jpg

New Yukon super joints.

New ring and pinion. It looked good initially, but had a hairline crack on the pinion gear.

Looks to me like a great pattern on the set up. IMG_20231019_105924.thumb.jpg.9937d56361d84aca9a076a40c6521e03.jpg

New ball joints. IMG_20231019_105931.thumb.jpg.c8932513538ac6a18fe90c1818bf3585.jpg

Fresh paint.

Should be as good as new. IMG_20231019_105904.thumb.jpg.9b6d0ab744935ad306a8f8a3894a29d9.jpg
