Jdofmemi
I found this great, short video of a synthetic winch line breaking 7nder load and wanted to share it. in addition to the lack of recoil, it is also very easy to splice or shorten with a new loop to the end. Link to comment
fiend
I remember a way of life video where someone’s line broke and they just tied it back together with a couple of overhand knots. 1 Link to comment

Pretty sure that was Eddie. There are better ways, but, I guess it worked, so.... Link to comment
KevinG
It was kind of fun watching Jon splice Jeff's line back together in AZ. Should have shot a video of it. Link to comment

Wish I would have seen it too. Zero clue how to do it. I just ordered a new line. Mines looking pretty rough. Link to comment

6wt
Back in the day we used to splice braided nylon lines on boats used a fid…but I haven’t done it in over 20 years, I probably don’t remember how. I would have high confidence in a double fisherman’s knot…we used it to lengthen a broken anchor line, and it is used in climbing often for joining two climbing ropes 1 Link to comment
fiend
Knots decrease strength by 25-30%, depending on the knot. So splicing is definitely better, but takes more time and isn’t something most of us do often enough to be proficient at it. Link to comment

6wt
Just now, 6wt said: I would only use a knot until I can replace the line … You can also tie knots that are near 90% line strength…but again, it would be a temporary fix… Link to comment
