Buggy 55

More progress!

Installed some non-slip stuff on the floors.   When you get in with wet feet it can get exciting on the bare aluminum.  This seems to fix the issue!

Next I added more storage and some coffee cup holders.   My recovery strap and a few other items fit well in the passenger side bag.

Next was the new headset holder.   Not sure yet if I like the spot but it can be moved so will see how it goes.

Looks great man.  Hopefully you get back to happy and comfy with this thing after a good shake down.

That is the plan! It is killing me to have it just sitting in the garage.  Hopefully the weather will participate soon and I will be able to do more than just rip it up and down the driveway.

A majority of my time this winter has been spent just going over everything on this buggy.  From the wiring to the fuel system.  Some things I found were just not right.

Here is another one I found while working on the front ram.

I was like….   How is that all the contact the belt has on the crank?

IMG_3077.thumb.jpeg.029b113a6f55940cbee46ef0879944f4.jpeg

So I sat there and looked at it for a bit.  Then moved the belt to the other side of the idler.   Wtf.   This thing has been this way since it was built I would guess.

Wow! I wonder what the guy was thinking 🤔

That belt had to be slipping under any kind of load.

I had some issues with belt noise but it was the pulley alignment.  I had to build some different spacers for the idler and the PS pump bracket.

I even replaced the belt at one point but put it back like it was.

It wasn't until I was under the front looking up that I noticed it wasn't correct.

Took it up to the rock pit behind the house for a little testing.   Then up to the top of the hill to see what got hot.

Drive went well until I found gear oil all over the front passenger tire.

A few minutes later this happened.

Dude it's beautiful where you live. Is it just a seal?

It would be great if it wasn't for all these damn hippies from CA.

Hopefully just a seal.  Surfaces look good.  May have gotten that seal hot when I welded that plate on the front of the truss.  Hard to say.

glad you’ve hopefully identified the culprit.

beautiful trail and awesome rig. Really great build thread. Hope to have a rig like this one day.

After the first real trip I have had time to decompress and all that...

I am very happy with how this rig did.   I was comfortable...  It performed better than I expected!

I guess the past few months were well spent getting it dialed in because I only had one failure on the trail.  (Hydraulic line failure)

I feel like I still have tons to learn...  But it's gonna be fun!
