Hi All,

Thanks for the welcome.

haha, thanks for the acknowledgement on my welds. I’ve been in steel construction for 15 years or so. More on the project management side now, but I enjoy welding on jeep projects for fun.

I like to wheel all over CO.
Buena Vista, Empire, all throughout Park County, down by Alamosa, etc.

Always open to new trails.

Heading to EJS on Thursday. Planning on posting my trail schedule if anyone wants to join🤙

Welcome!

I really enjoy wheeling in Colorado!

Our group has made a few trips there.

Montrose, Grand Junction, Buena Vista, Penrose.

Plus all the high mountain passes.  Beautiful!

Damm..........So what are some good tips to mig weld vertical?

Uphill mig can be one of the hardest to get to lay in flat.

Definitely weave a bit side to side. Your weave doesn’t have to be crazy wide. Keep it at 3/8” inch wide max. But really point your gun left and right as you work the puddle upwards.

Pause at each side. Do not hesitate in the middle at all.

Turn your machine as low as you can stand it. Run a few practice plates and hammer test them to make sure you’re getting penetration, but you want your settings to be pretty low.

Also, there is tons of excellent welding content on YouTube nowadays, and a lot of it is very informative. But when it comes to technique and instruction, there will always be one best: Jody Collier.

Great advice!

Thanks 👍

hell yea, man.

I’ve passed ASME pressure vessel tests with that technique.

its also possible to pass a bend test running downhill mig. Although a bit harder to get penetration.

I’ve run plenty of downhill welds on the jeep, of course. Just need to do a setup piece to strength test, and be sure to run hot and take your time.
